April Update- Tariff Analysis, Investing with a Long-Term Perspective, Short Term Stock Insights, House Cleaning Tips

Better late than never… this month’s April update covers tariffs, investing, and home cleaning.

A Historical Analysis of Tariffs from Verdad – The author provides valuable data on how tariffs impacted GDP growth, inflation, trade balances, and stocks. The author sums it up well: “Our analysis suggests that, over the long term, tariffs have had relatively minor impacts on GDP, inflation, and equity markets. Perhaps most surprisingly, they’ve had relatively minor impacts on trade imbalances…. Perhaps the best way to think about tariffs, then, is simply as a tax like any other.”

5 Charts to Put Market Volatility in Perspective from Capital Group – They stress that stocks recovered from trade uncertainty during Trump’s first term, stocks typically have recovered quickly from bear markets, most stock bull markets are greater in magnitude in duration than stock bear markets, bonds can offer ballast to your investment portfolio, and having a long-term investment perspective has often been prudent.

When to Buy The Dip from The Financial Times – The author highlights that the stock market’s current valuation remains historically high, tariffs have raised the risk of a recession, earnings estimates may not fully incorporate a potential recession, and bonds look relatively attractive. My interpretation is that while stock returns look compelling over the long run, 3-5 year return prospects are relatively subdued.

The 6 grossest spots in your home, and how to clean them from The Washington Post – For some variety, I’ve added this practical article to the mix. Happy reading and spring cleaning.

The articles have also been uploaded to your eMoney vault/articles folder so you can reference them later.
